Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information LumiNames collects when you visit the site, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, please email us at hello@luminames.app.

In this policy, "LumiNames", "we", and "us" refer to the operator of this site. "You" refers to anyone who visits or uses it.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

If you create an account or sign in, we store the email address you used and the authentication tokens issued by our backend provider. If you email us, we retain the message and your reply address for as long as needed to answer you.

Information collected automatically

  • Page-view counts. We increment a counter on individual name pages so we can highlight what is being read. The counter is anonymous — we do not attach your identity to it.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider logs the standard request metadata every website receives: IP address, user agent, referring URL, timestamp, and the path requested. These logs are used to diagnose problems and detect abuse, and are retained for a short rolling window.
  • Local preferences. Your browser may store small values (session tokens, UI preferences) in cookies or local storage. These are first-party and stay on your device.

Information we do not collect

We do not run third-party advertising trackers. We do not sell personal data. We do not build a profile of the names you view.

2. How we use information

  • To operate the site and keep it fast, reliable, and secure.
  • To power features such as "trending names" using aggregate, non-identifying counts.
  • To authenticate your account, if you have signed in.
  • To reply to messages you send us.
  • To comply with legal obligations and to defend against fraud or abuse.

3. Cookies and local storage

LumiNames uses a small number of first-party cookies and local storage entries: a session cookie so you can stay signed in, and preference values (for example, your chosen theme). We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can clear these at any time through your browser's privacy settings; some features will require you to sign in again afterwards.

4. Service providers

We rely on a small set of infrastructure providers to run LumiNames:

  • Hosting and edge compute — to serve pages, run background jobs, and deliver static assets.
  • Managed database and authentication — to store name data, aggregate view counts, and account records.
  • Email delivery — used only when we need to reach you (for example, sign-in verification or replying to a support email).

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms and are contractually limited to that role.

5. Data retention

Account records are kept for as long as your account is active. Server logs are kept for a short rolling window (typically no more than 30 days) and then deleted or rotated. Aggregate, anonymous counters are kept indefinitely because they cannot identify you.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, in the EEA, the UK, or California), you may have the right to request a copy of the data we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@luminames.app from the address associated with your account. We will respond within a reasonable period.

7. Children

LumiNames is a general-audience reference site. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International transfers

LumiNames is served from a global edge network, and our providers may process data in countries other than the one you visit from. Where required, we rely on standard contractual protections offered by those providers.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, access-controlled databases, and row-level authorization for account data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep the surface small and the practices careful.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted on the page for a reasonable period before taking effect.
